about

Keith Howland- guitarist from the band Chicago, is featured on Magellan's "The Better Suite". Keith shows off his versatility and pyrotechnics, so familiar to anyone who has seen him live with Chicago.

This tune is a 5 part prog excursion, clocking in at 8:32. It actually features a founding member of Chicago too - on a beautiful piccolo trumpet solo, performed by Lee Loughnane. Robert Berry(GTR,3,ELP,Alliance) also provides some nice bass/r.gtr work.

Give it a few whirls! Loudly, please!

lyrics

The Better Suite

I'd love one more day
where I'm still plugged in
just to spite the pain
it takes to live

Life rages like a flood
drowning fire inside of me

A story not complete
no dead ends to repeat
no crucifix at my feet
But while mere flesh was burning out
what happened to this man?

Job knew why -its all a test
Better when I'm feeling nothing
Should I wait for salvation?

Such a long way to fall
Struggle through my nights
Big anxiety crawls over me
Hear my symphony -giving up the ghost
Miss nothing -listen close

Angry words in my throat
A permanent case of insanity
In a seller's market trading agony
I'm the architect of my tragedy
An 11th hour absurdity

So I've learned -its just free will
Better when I'm doing nothing
Dare I speak of salvation?

Welcome to the real world
where you can't hide out anymore
Its a follow thru that's deep inside of you
Its somewhere -yes
A big idea - whose time has come?

These dreams -see 'em dyin' on the vine
get em' out of your mind
and show us - what ya got?

Kill the fantasy -let it be what ya see
You’re on the road to nowhere
ooh..its a chilling thought..

It ain't nothin'...

I'm the king of nothingness
Just a beggar with vanity
what's the point of life?
Do you see?
I am ready to learn
I surrender to YOU
Yes -everything that I am
or ever hope to be...
All my wants, sadly remain
as I strive against the grain
to no avail...

Now the wisdom comes...

Better when I'm listening
Better when I've been humbled...better!
I'm feeling much better...
